It was first created by the World Federation for Mental Health in October 1992. World Mental Health Day was created to increase awareness of mental health and it’s effects, along with breaking down barriers and stigmas surrounding mental health. The World Federation for Mental Health, is an organisation founded in 1948, their mission is: To promote the advancement of mental health awareness, prevention of mental disorders, advocacy, and best practice recovery focused interventions worldwide.
Home Instead Mid Cornwall feel strongly about promoting mental health in older people, which is why we provide premium, relationship led care. Older people can have their mental health effected by various reasons, for example, loneliness, grief as well as physical health issues such as Dementia and Parkinson’s. Depression affects around 22% of men and 28% of women aged 65 years and over, yet it is estimated that 85% of older people with depression receive no help at all from the NHS. Home Instead Mid Cornwall provides at least hourly visits, which means our caregivers have the time to build strong relationships with clients whilst also helping them with other tasks such as meal prep, washing + dressing and medication support. We are also able to provide companionship visits which are very beneficial, it means that many of our clients are able to get out and visit friends or partake in events in the community. Sometimes we are the only people they see each day and therefore it’s important that we know how to support their emotional wellbeing. Our Manager Claire and Training & Development Co-ordinator Rhiannon are both Mental Health Champions, therefore they are able to help our caregivers to provide the best care to our clients. We cover a wide area across central Cornwall, including Wadebridge, Padstow, Bodmin, St Austell and Fowey.
If you’re interested in the care we provide please call us on 01726 829312.
