Companionship Care is at the heart of the care and Support we provide at Home Instead Mid Cornwall. Whilst most domiciliary care companies focus on task, our Care Professionals at Home Instead have time to build good relationships with our clients and enjoy each other’s company.
We estimate over 14,000 people over the age over 65 live alone in St Austell, Bodmin, Wadebridge and Fowey and surrounding areas.
Colin in Bodmin told us “I really enjoy seeing my Care Professionals Caroline and Joyce in the week. We have a chat and go out for a walk in Cardinam or Lanhydrock if the weather is good. I stopped driving last year and was becoming housebound. My daughter arranged it all, and I’m so glad she did, life is worth living again”.

Home Instead Companionship Care helps a person living alone to enjoy social interaction and continue to do the things they enjoy.
We carefully match Care Professionals, so they have the right training and personality to help people. Olive in Fowey has always loved to bake, but was struggling to manage it now her memory wasn’t working quite as well. Our Care professional Fiona helped her by stepping in with the things Olive couldn’t manage and she was able to rediscover her love of baking.
Companionship Care can be getting active in the area to see one of the wonderful gardens such as Heligan near Mevagissey or the Eden Project in St Blazey. In Wadebridge, the café in the John Betjamin Centre is a favourite.
We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Both are overseen by our care management team and delivered by compassionate Care Professionals. Each care package is made up of of a unique mix services to meet your needs.

Loneliness is a real issue for older people in our community. Conditions such as Dementia progress more quickly if a person loses social interaction. Frailty and mobility can be reduced in risk if a person keeps active.
During our care consultation, we gather information about a person’s life so far and what they wish for the future. We build a detailed care plan about this, daily routine, activities they enjoy and food and drink they like to have. This information helps a Care Professional prepare for their first visit so they can provide what the client is looking for.
Jemima in Wadebridge accompanies May to her Italian for older people class at the John Betjamin Centre every week so she can continue there with her friends.

Companionship care is really at the heart of everything we do. We train thoroughly around care tasks as well to prepare our Care professionals to look after a wide range of people but companionship care is really the most important support we provide. This can be a couple of hours a week at the start of a persons care need or several hours a day as part of other care services when providing palliative care.
Our Care team keep in regular contact with clients and their families and support and manage care professionals in providing this care. Our quality assurance visits, and service reviews help us stay on top of any changes in client need.
With Home Instead in Mid Cornwall we help people enjoy their lives at home where they wish to be.

Companionship care is an excellent way to start. We can visit for an informal cup of tea and a chat initially to talk with the person needing help and reassure them of how we help. We always build the care around what someone wishes and they are in control. We dont wear uniforms and only employ lovely people with empathy who know how to build a good relationship. Once we get over the initial hurdle in almost every case, people enjoy the visits and find them of great benefit. If needs to rise, we can then provide more care and support if required.
