Home Instead Mid Cornwall offer Home Help and Housekeeping services for older people living with dementia, frailty, or other conditions. This service is helping and supporting people to continue at home when they may be starting to need support with daily housekeeping tasks such as washing clothes, shopping, tidying up or food storage.
This service helps people live well at home. It is also a wonderful way to start the care service as people are often reluctant or a bit uncertain about accepting care at home. They are often happy to accept Home Help and Housekeeping as a first step, and it compliments the Companionship care we do.

A clean and tidy home helps people feel better and more settled. At Home Instead Mid Cornwall we are always careful to help in a way that the client wishes and do not ‘take over.’ Our detailed care plans created with the client and their family help and guide Care Professionals in what the client wishes and needs.
Our Care Professional Mary looking after George in Lostwithiel noticed he was starting to struggle to maintain a tidy fridge with food going out of date. Mary chatted to George about this, and he agreed that it would be good for a weekly task to clean and tidy the fridge. We also help him with a weekly shopping trip to the Co Op and he enjoys a coffee with some cake in The Mess Hall.
What we do to care for your loved ones
We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Both are overseen by our care management team and delivered by compassionate Care Professionals. Each care package is made up of of a unique mix services to meet your needs.
Companionship care
We carefully match Care Professionals with clients to ensure a meaningful bond is created.
Home help & meal prep
Keeping the home environment clean, safe, and nourishing with home-cooked meals.
Personal care
Assistance with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene, always respecting the dignity of your loved one.
Mobility support
Helping your loved one move around their home safely, including transfers and positioning.
Health appointment management
We support you to attend those important health appointments.
Community engagement
We enable you to continue to do the things you enjoy, be it a visit to the garden centre or your local art group.
Transportation
Assistance getting you from A to B, whether it be to go visit a friend or help with your shopping.
Medication management
Ensuring medicines are taken correctly and on time, supporting overall health.
Home Instead have been fantastic with my mum right from the start.
I live some distance from my mum, who has lived on her own for more than 20 years and is very independent.
They put my mum first, got to know her, and spent time talking to her. They helped Mum with what she wanted help with, and built up her trust by listening to her and working to her agenda, not theirs. As Mum’s dementia got worse she relied more upon them but they knew her likes and dislikes and spent time with her so she felt like she was valued and safe.
Great communication, the online portal and daily task notes kept me informed on Mum’s state of mind, health and activities. Appropriate phone calls for urgent contact and emails when less urgent.
When circumstances change e.g. stay in hospital, a deterioration in her dementia, increase in help needed, Home Instead helped me by adapting the services they provided giving me advice and the support I needed.

Home Instead absolutely came to my rescue! Recommended by a family member who is a community nurse, this wonderful organisation provided the short-term support I needed after several weeks of home nursing. My husband’s health was slowly improving but it was reassuring to have a friendly and competent carer to supervise showering and, to my delight, to carry out light household tasks such as ironing. I was able to leave the house for a short while. Right from the initial home assessment visit, the process was easy, and the staff was professional, caring and friendly. Tailored Home Help & Housekeeping in Mid Cornwall
During our care consultation we build a detailed picture of the help the client is looking for about the home. As a person starts to find if difficult to manage everything themselves, it is so important to help them in a way that they wish.
Maggie in Bodmin missed having the table laid properly now her hands are feeling stiff with arthritis. She used to enjoy eating with her husband every day at 6. Joyce helps her lay the table properly and sits with her chatting whilst they have dinner. Joyce helps tidy up afterwards and knows Maggie likes everything to be in the right place and the room to be spotless.

Our Care Manager and her team match Care Professionals so they will build a good relationship with the client and be able to follow the care plan well. With Home Help and Housekeeping it is so important to do things exactly how the client wishes.
Familiarity and routine are so important. Maggie in Bodmin agreed (with a little reticence!) to have help from us that her daughter helped arrange. She was worried however, strangers would turn up and household tasks wouldn’t be done to her high standards. She was reassured by the Care Consultation and after the first 2 weeks was very content with the service. We know she will let know if anything is not quite right! Most of all she enjoys a cup of tea and a chat with the ladies who visit.
