Personal Care is a vital part of the support and care we provide in Mid Cornwall. We help people with everyday activities such as washing and dressing, assistance with applying creams or help with continence issues. Clients are often nervous about needing this help, but our kind and experienced Care Professionals reassure and build in this support over time, providing dignity and privacy in the assistance they give.
With our one-hour minimum visits, our Care Professionals have time to properly care for people and help them with personal care tasks in a patient and understanding way. Clients are in control, and we are there to help them, with consent, with anything they need assistance with.

Why Personal Care may be right for you
Personal care cannot be rushed. Too often, we hear of 15 or 30 minute calls, often cut short, where people are under time pressure to complete a shower and get dressed. Imagine being frail or living with memory loss and feeling rushed and harried to get ready.
With Home Instead, we take time to help with this care. This allows people independence and time to do what they can themselves. Our Care Professionals encourage and assist in a dignified way, building trust and confidence with the people they look after.

We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Both are overseen by our care management team and delivered by compassionate Care Professionals. Each care package is made up of of a unique mix services to meet your needs.

We support you to attend those important health appointments.

We enable you to continue to do the things you enjoy, be it a visit to the garden centre or your local art group.

Assistance getting you from A to B, whether it be to go visit a friend or help with your shopping.

Ensuring medicines are taken correctly and on time, supporting overall health.
Home Instead have been fantastic with my mum right from the start.
I live some distance from my mum, who has lived on her own for more than 20 years and is very independent.
They put my mum first, got to know her, and spent time talking to her. They helped Mum with what she wanted help with, and built up her trust by listening to her and working to her agenda, not theirs. As Mum’s dementia got worse she relied more upon them but they knew her likes and dislikes and spent time with her so she felt like she was valued and safe.
Great communication, the online portal and daily task notes kept me informed on Mum’s state of mind, health and activities. Appropriate phone calls for urgent contact and emails when less urgent.
When circumstances change e.g. stay in hospital, a deterioration in her dementia, increase in help needed, Home Instead helped me by adapting the services they provided giving me advice and the support I needed.

Home Instead absolutely came to my rescue! Recommended by a family member who is a community nurse, this wonderful organisation provided the short-term support I needed after several weeks of home nursing. My husband’s health was slowly improving but it was reassuring to have a friendly and competent carer to supervise showering and, to my delight, to carry out light household tasks such as ironing. I was able to leave the house for a short while. Right from the initial home assessment visit, the process was easy, and the staff was professional, caring and friendly. Tailored Personal Care in Mid Cornwall
Accepting help with personal care such as washing and dressing can be difficult for a person. Other conditions such as Dementia, Parkinsons or Frailty and lead to a person being unable to care for themselves.
Sometimes people may be unaware they need help, sometimes they may be embarrassed. We always work with the client and encourage and reassure them and try and find the best way to help.
Margaret’s daughter had been worried about her. “Mum had always dressed well and wished to look her best when she went out. She was upset and frustrated at not being able to do this anymore. We have three qualified Trainers in Mid Cornwall for Moving and Handling and two in Continence Care. These in house trainers allow us to build skills and confidence with Care Professionals. We use a combination of Face-to-Face training in our training centre in Par Moor outside St Austell, online training, and most importantly supportive training in the client’s home.
Our new Care Professional Joyce had never worked in care before and was nervous about how to do this. She said ‘The initial training in Par I received was excellent. Very thorough and showed me how to look after someone with this vital aspect of care. The shadow visits helped me build my confidence over time to care for people in a safe and dignified way ‘
