Garden Centres these days have so much more than just plants, from hot tubs to marine life, here are a few of our favourite garden centres to visit in and around Milton Keynes
Located between Olney and Newport Pagnell, Alban Hill Nurseries is a delightful independent nursery with a range of plants, gifts and its very own coffee shop. The staff are known for their gardening expertise so if you’re unsure of what you need for a particular spot in your garden, they are more than happy to advise. Its location between the villages of Emberton, Petsoe End, Sherington and Chicheley means the coffee shop is well attended by passing cyclists and well worth a visit in its own right. It boasts locally sourced ingredients and its specials board changes daily.
Dobbies Garden Centre is on the edge of Fenny Stratford near Bletchley and although part of a chain of garden centres, it has been hugely supportive of the community work Home Instead Milton Keynes has done over the years. It has an expansive range of indoor and outdoor plants, a large restaurant/cafe area with seating both indoors and out and even an onsite mini Sainsburys supermarket to one side. The indoor shop includes everything from clothing, homeware, gifts and a whole aquatics area.
Less of a garden centre and more of a nursery, Lakers Nursery is a family owned business complete with a charming cafe offering locally made cakes and biscuits. It’s another destination for the passing cyclist because of its location on the edge of Winslow, between the villages of Addington, Granborough, Swanbourne and Little Horwood, all popular cycling routes. There are numerous polytunnels to peruse and should you need advice on plants for particular areas, the staff are always on hand to help. The gift shop is jam packed with gardening gifts ideas and lots of things you never knew you wanted!
Another family run business but a much larger enterprise than Lakers Nursery, Frosts Garden Centres has been inspiring gardeners since 1946. With only two locations, Frosts could be mistaken to be part of a chain because of its extensive offering, with furniture, a farm shop, garden office solutions, the annual Father Christmas and summer seaside experiences, it’s known for family memory making events.
