Companionship Care at home

Companionship care at home plays a vital role in supporting your loved one's overall wellbeing.

It brings a range of emotional, physical, and social benefits, helping them to live a fuller, more enriched life.

At Home Instead Monmouth, Abergavenny and Pontypool, we tailor our care services to meet the individual needs and preferences of your loved one. Whether it’s a walk with the dog, a stroll around a local park, or a trip to a nearby shopping center, our Care Professionals are here to support activities that bring joy and connection.

Having a dependable Care Professional visit your loved one at home offers peace of mind, knowing their independence is being maintained while reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation. This, in turn, helps to boost mental health by alleviating anxiety and depression. Whether it’s chatting about their favorite football team, working on a puzzle together, or enjoying lunch at a local café, these interactions enhance their self-esteem and quality of life, giving reassurance to both you and your loved one.

Home Instead offers flexible care plans, ranging from several hours a day to a few hours a week, all designed to meet the unique needs of your loved one.

Our Care Professionals are carefully matched to each client based on personality, hobbies, and interests. For example, one of our Care Professionals, who speaks fluent Welsh, visits a Welsh-speaking client, communicating in Welsh throughout their time together. Whether it’s crafting, sports, cooking, or even spending time with pets, we ensure that the Care Professional you’re paired with shares similar interests and values.

If your loved one enjoys a regular outing, we’ll find a Care Professional who can accompany them. This might include trips to a local café, community groups, or shopping for ingredients to cook a favorite meal. We can even help with online grocery shopping, ensuring your loved one gets everything they need while remaining at home.  One of our Care Professionals is a very good baker and recently helped a client bake a birthday cake for her granddaughter.

One of our Care Professionals accompanies a client Jean, to Abergavenny Market.    They enjoy a stroll around and Jean then meets her friends for a spot of lunch.  Staying engaged with local groups and familiar faces is important for reducing isolation and maintaining social connections. Similarly, another of our clients, Anne , looks forward to her weekly outing with Care Professional Sarah for a walk along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. Mary enjoys a coffee and cake in the café, followed by a peaceful walk along the canal—a routine that brings both her and Sarah joy.

Companionship care is also an ideal starting point for those who may need additional support in the future. By building strong relationships with a small team of Care Professionals, the transition to more complex care, if needed, is seamless and comfortable.

All of our Care Professionals undergo comprehensive training, including a three-day course and various online modules to build knowledge and confidence. We also offer specialized training in nail care and person-centered care. The majority of our Care Professionals live locally, giving them excellent knowledge of the area and its community events, making them the ideal companion to help your loved one stay connected and engaged.
