On the 11th of May we launched our new exciting Memory café in the Palmer Center.
It is important for people living with dementia to remain active and to stimulate the brain. That’s why we have launched our brand new Memory Cafe’s in Chepstow. The Memory Café is designed for people with Dementia and their support group. The aim of the Cafes is to build a community for dementia support, were people can get together with other families and carers going through similar situations. Knowing you are not alone is important and that there are others to help along the way. We are offering a free 2 hour session every month for games, activities and conversation.
We start the 2 hour Café by getting to know each other and by having Tea/Coffee. After everyone is settled we have some fun.
We have partnered with a local company called Rise who specialise with games and activities for those living with dementia. Rise aims to help people in the community to get active, have fun and improve their wellbeing and fitness through our unique ‘seated sports’ programme, which enables people to experience the joy of games while playing and competing together. This month we played seated football, tennis and hockey. During the games we also exercise your brain with fun quiz like games, for example name an animal with the letter A.
All activities are designed for people living with dementia, However we welcome all elderly members of the community that would like to benefit from the café. Home Instead specialise in Dementia care and can offer advice and support during the sessions.
The Memory Cafe is on the second Thursday of every month from 10am to 12pm. Our next two cafes are on the 8th of June and 13th of July. It is completely free and if you would like more information on the Memory cafe, or would like to register interest in coming along please contact Karen at [email protected] or phone on 01633 740028.
