We’ve all heard the saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Did you know breakfast is a key part of senior nutrition and the benefits of this first meal of the day are vast. From improving energy levels and concentration to reducing the risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Eating a healthy breakfast is a verified way to support overall health.
During the night your glucose levels have plummeted. The brain needs glucose to function and low levels affect our cognitive abilities. In other words, you’re not at your sharpest which can lead to falls and mistakes.
The other issue for many older people is that their appetites diminish and keeping up sufficient calorie intake to keep them healthy and well-nourished is difficult. Many people with dementia have little interest in food and can find themselves losing weight.
The best way to really make this most important of meals an experience is going out to enjoy it somewhere together. Give your seniors a real morning or brunch treat by taking them out into Newport for their next cooked breakfast.
