Home Instead had a great turn out for their Be A Santa To A Senior campaign this year, read on to find out more...
The spirit of giving was in full swing this Christmas in Norwich, as Be A Santa To A Senior’s annual gift collection saw an incredible outpouring of generosity. With an overwhelming response from the community, we managed to receive around 500 gifts to be able to distribute to people locally who may be alone this Christmas, or without a gift.
Many individuals and local businesses raised donations for this wonderful campaign, to name a few: Nuffield Health, Norwich City Football Club, St Stephens Gate Medical Practice, Clapham and Collinge Solicitors and to Cooperative store on Earlham Road.
We held a wrapping event at our local office in Diamond House on December the 7th, where we had the support of Age UK Norwich volunteers, Home Instead Care Professionals and other individuals in the community. We managed to wrap all the gifts ready for their deliveries over the coming weeks in the lead up to Christmas day.
One of the primary locations that benefited from this year’s generosity was the Elsing ward at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. The thoughtful gifts brought comfort and joy to those spending their holidays in the hospital, offering a glimmer of warmth during their stay. Additionally, the Beech Ward at the Community Hospital was part of this heart-warming endeavour, providing a sense of festive cheer to those in recovery.
The initiative’s impact wasn’t confined to hospitals alone; it extended its reach to several community centres and groups dedicated to supporting seniors. Lakenham Day Centre, Sprowston dementia group, St Cuthberts Luncheon club and Hellesdon dementia group were among the recipients, where the gifts served as tokens of love and appreciation for these communities’ elderly members. Many individuals from the community were also nominated to receive a special gift this Christmas.
Be A Santa To A Senior collaborated with various charitable organisations, such as St Matthews Charity, and St Martins Charity in Norwich to make sure no one was without this Christmas.
We felt that the gifts that were donated were not just a representation of a material offerings but symbolised the community coming together demonstrating solidarity and care for its elderly members.
We want to thank everyone who has taken the time to be a part of this campaign this year, we are truly grateful for the support Home Instead Norwich has received for it to be a success and to be able to spread some joy over Christmas to our seniors in Norwich.
