Teaming up with Norfolk Care Careers: A partnership built on care

Norfolk Care Careers is a platform dedicated to promoting careers in adult social care, connecting individuals with care roles, with a focus on recruitment, retention, and professional development. By partnering with them, we’ve created a film that captures the true essence of what it means to be a Care Professional. The result is a captivating video that tells Darrin’s authentic story and highlights how rewarding a career in care can be for those who seek to make a real difference in people’s lives.

From office work to care: Darrin’s story

Darrin spent over 30 years working in an office before seeking a new direction that would allow him to connect with people in a more meaningful way. With his strong communication skills and desire to have a positive impact, Darrin came to join Home Instead Norwich.

In the video, Darrin speaks openly about his transition into care. He explains how he had transferable people skills, and how the extensive training provided by Home Instead – covering equipment use, dementia care, and safeguarding – enabled him to settle comfortably into his new position. Darrin also appreciates the options of the job with various hours available, which allows him to maintain a work-life balance. He enjoys working in the mornings and still having time to pick up his daughter from school and walk the dogs in the afternoons.

The video also introduces Terry and Patricia, a couple who have benefited from Darrin’s care. We see the couple and Darrin taking a stroll around Norwich Market. Patricia had looked after Terry, but after suffering a stroke, she found it more challenging to manage everything on her own. That’s when Darrin was able to offer essential care at home for Terry at home, while also helping Patricia with household tasks. This support gives Patricia peace of mind and time to focus more on her own well-being, knowing Darrin is there to assist them both.

Most importantly, Darrin finds the role deeply fulfilling, saying that seeing the smiles from those he cares for is what makes the job incredibly rewarding.

Breaking the care stereotypes

There are often misconceptions and preconceived ideas about care work, but by highlighting Darrin’s story, we hope to show the reality of what quality care looks like—both for our clients and our Care Professionals themselves. Watching Darrin with Terry and Patricia reflects the authentic and rewarding nature of care work, our visits are always at least an hour which really gives time to make a difference and build relationships.

A career that makes a difference

Throughout the video, Darrin emphasises how the comprehensive training he received from our team at Home Instead Norwich has prepared him to deliver high-quality care. He encourages anyone with a passion for helping others to consider a career in care, stressing how rewarding it can be.
