Home Instead Norwich, ran their annual ‘Be A Santa’ Christmas gift-giving campaign this year, which aims to bring joy to the lives of older people in Norwich.
The team partnered with local organisations to set up donation points across the city and were overwhelmed by the response from the community. Hannah Begley, Community Engagement Manager at Home Instead Norwich, who helped to organise the campaign, said “we are so grateful for the generosity of the Norwich community. Thanks to their kindness we have been able to give gifts to over 400 older people locally, giving them the joy of unwrapping a gift this Christmas Day. This has been our biggest year yet, and it’s been heartwarming to see the benefit the campaign has had for all involved.”
‘Be A Santa’ has had involvement from a wide variety of organisations this year, including Isadores, City College Norwich, Sportspark UEA, St Stephen’s Gate Medical Practice, Clapham & Collinge, Morrisons Old Catton and The Cock Inn, Drayton. The team also received a large amount of donations from Norfolk Knitters & Stitchers, who spend much of the year creating items to donate at Christmas time, such as blankets, scarves, hats and twiddle muffs for those with dementia.
With so many gifts, comes a lot of wrapping, and the team at Home Instead Norwich were fortunate to receive support from SG Wealth Management, who took on the challenge of getting the gifts wrapped ahead of the big day!
In the week leading up to Christmas, the team at Home Instead Norwich dug out their Santa hats and delivered the 400+ presents to older people throughout Norwich. Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital’s Elsing Ward, Norwich Community Hospital’s Beech Ward and Norwich Door to Door received gifts for their patients and passengers, whilst community groups such as Hellesdon Library Dementia Group and Sprowston Dementia Group received deliveries at their annual Christmas parties.
