Discover the findings of Home Instead's “The New Ageing Index” latest report and how our home care services in Norwich can support you to stay active & live well at home.
In today’s world, the traditional image of ageing is changing fast. The New Ageing Index recent report from Home Instead UK shows just how much perspectives are shifting.
The findings are insightful. The research reveals that most respondents over 65 are keen to keep healthy and active, showing that age really is just a number and that we do want to stay active as we age. An impressive 89% of people aged 75 and older are still enthusiastic about life, and recognise how important it is to stay active as they get older. It’s clear that healthy lifestyle choices aren’t just for the young.
While these findings show that the traditional image of ageing is changing, and perhaps the traditional image of home care needs to change too. At Home Instead Norwich, we’re able to support our clients to do the things that matter most to them. Our day-to-day work allows many older adults to remain independent at home and in the community.
We understand each of our client’s needs through a personal consultation, where we look to match a care plan to your needs and preferences, as well as matching you with a regular Care Professional who shares similar interests or specific experiences.
Supporting adults to get out and about is something very important to us, from a visit to Eaton Park for a walk or a drive to Notcutts for green-fingered clients. Take the real-life story of one of our clients: “My father, aged 93, lives in an annex attached to our home. We were looking for a companion who could engage my father in conversation and accompany him to his favourite places. Home Instead provided a carer who visits weekly, going the extra mile to ensure the quality of life my father deserves.”
The report also showed some frustration, with an average 58% agreeing that older people are not encouraged enough to play sports. With this in mind, here are a few options that are tailored to post-retirement in our local area of Norwich to peak your interest:
– Norwich u3a has a wealth of groups for those who are retired and includes a friendly Monday walking group that usually covers 8-10 miles, and a Thursday cycling group who are “a group of pottering cake shop hunters with rides dotted with church visits, coffee stops, lunch breaks and lots of quiet country lanes and more.”
– Senior memberships are available at leisure centres in our city, which can be an affordable way to visit regularly and enjoy a range of activities.
– Norwich City’s Official Charity, the community foundation, organises Extra Time for over 55s. “One morning every week, attendees enjoy an hour of physical activity, followed by a social hour. Participants are welcome to attend the social hour only.”
