She knew that older people often feel lonely and isolated and wanted to do something to help her local community. She provides a chance for people to meet up, enjoy guest speakers, and have a friendly chat, along some refreshments or outings.
We visited the group when they had guest speaker Glen Booker from the Barry War Museum and it was a really interesting session. There were 63 attendees with a small army of helpers to prepare the refreshments. They are always fundraising to keep going and we were keen to support their efforts.
We had some gifts left over from our ‘Be a Santa’ campaign which were too large to go into our gift bags, so we donated these for their raffle. The Cherry Orchard Pub was only too pleased to donate a £30 meal voucher as a raffle prize.
Alexandra Poulton from The Cherry Orchard presented us with the voucher to pass on. Gay was thrilled at the donations and will have them as her raffle prizes for their Easter fundraiser.
