We spent the afternoon out in Market Weighton sharing and learning about local services
On Saturday 20th October, Home Instead attended the Health & Wellbeing event hosted by the Market Weighton Practice Patient Participation Group. The event was held at the Market Weighton Community Hall, and included representatives from numerous groups providing services, support and activities around the area.
The weather wasn’t great at the start of the event which may have kept the numbers down, but as the afternoon progressed, a steady flow of visitors came through the doors. Throughout the afternoon, Bex and Mandy enjoyed chatting with the other groups and services who were exhibiting. There were several that provide services that may be of interest to Home Instead clients, so we will be sure to pass details on.
On our table, we had a wealth of information about falls prevention, nutrition, tips for keeping yourself well and of course information about our hourly and live in services that help our clients remain safe and well in their own home.
Some of the other groups and services that were in attendance include:
Dementia Forward which is a charity that supports people with dementia and their carers with a wide range of services and support groups.
Talking About Loss which is a group that gives people who are grieving the opportunity to talk about how they are feeling and ease the isolation and loneliness they may be feel following a bereavement.
The Acorns community centre in Market Weighton is a space available for different types of groups to hold events.
The Weighton Wolds Rotary Club had a fabulous photo display of the activities and charity work undertaken by the group.
The Market Weighton Practice Reception and Nursing Team were there to talk about services available to patients. We particularly enjoyed chatting with the practice Diabetes Nurse
Healthwatch was there to let people know about their services including listening to people’s experience of health and social care. They also partner with other organisations to better support the community
NHS Foundation sharing opportunities to get involved research
Together We Care which is a local group in Market Weighton, and was the first of it’s kind in the area. It’s a very active social group that meets twice per month for support and for fun. They also go on some fabulous weekend trips. The group welcomes both the carers and the cared for.
Dove House Hospice were there to share information about their services
The event was very well run by the PPG and we were very happy to be included
