What’s your role at Home Instead?

Hi, I’m Liz, a Field Care Supervisor at Home Instead Pocklington and Brough.

My responsibility is to oversee the delivery of high-quality care to our clients in their homes. I mentor a team of Care Pros, ensuring they receive the training, support, and resources needed to provide compassionate care and maintain the highest standards. I also have my own care visits, supporting clients to help them remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

In addition, I act as a liaison between care professionals, clients, and families to ensure clear communication and that care is tailored to individual preferences and needs. It’s important to me that both clients and Care Pros feel valued and supported, creating a positive care experience for everyone involved.

What did you do before coming to Home Instead?

Before joining Home Instead, I worked in education, where I loved supporting children and their families in both learning and care. Watching children grow from their first day into confident, independent individuals was incredibly rewarding. I especially enjoyed the variety each day brought—it always made me smile!

I took great pride in creating bespoke curriculums and leading a team that shaped meaningful learning experiences.  In my current role at Home Instead, I continue to uphold the same values of care, dignity, and respect. And just like in education, no two days are ever the same, which makes my work all the more fulfilling!

What does “To us, it’s personal” mean to you?

To me, “It’s personal” means approaching my work with empathy, dedication, and a genuine commitment to making a difference. Care isn’t just about completing tasks or routines—it’s about forming meaningful relationships, understanding each client’s needs, and treating everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Every person has a unique life story, and it’s an honour to be part of their journey, providing not just care but also companionship. A personal connection is what makes my role so special.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time with my family, dogs and being outdoors, finding inspiration in nature and being in the moment. With a creative background, I enjoy painting, collage, drawing and getting messy. In the last couple of years I’ve particularly enjoyed art for relaxation (Mindful Art) and I have loved sharing new techniques with others including friends and family.

I also enjoy taking on new challenges—right now, I’m having a go at crochet. It’s a work in progress, but I’m enjoying the journey (even if I need a bit more practice!).
