Home Instead Portsmouth attends Portsmouth FC’s fixture, where mental health awareness was front and centre, aligning with our values of holistic support.
At Home Instead Portsmouth and Southsea, we are always eager to support local initiatives that align with our commitment to well-being in the community. Recently, our owner, Helen, had the honour of attending Portsmouth FC’s match on October 5, 2024, which was dedicated to World Mental Health Day. The occasion brought attention to an important and too often still overlooked issue – mental health – and reflected the values of compassion and support that we uphold in our home care services to support older adults in and around Portsmouth.
Helen’s visit to Portsmouth FC was more than just a match day, it was a chance to be a part of a powerful mental health awareness event. The fixture, dedicated to World Mental Health Day, carried a sobering statistic: one person dies by suicide every 90 minutes. But the message of the day was one of hope, reminding everyone that, no matter how difficult things may seem, you are not alone. Portsmouth FC encouraged fans to reach out for support when they need it, emphasising that everyone has a support team of people who care and are ready to help.
This message is so important to the team at Home Instead Portsmouth, where we strive to provide not only physical support but also emotional and mental well-being through our care services. We understand how crucial it is to have someone to talk to, which is why building strong relationships with our clients and families is at the heart of what we do.
Another inspiring aspect of the event was the #PompeyGetTalking campaign, led by Pompey in the Community as part of the Premier League Inspires 2024 initiative. Young people were invited to have important conversations with Portsmouth FC’s first team players, asking questions about mental health. The insights were shared on the stadium’s big screens, underscoring the importance of normalising mental health discussions within our community.
At Home Instead Portsmouth we are keen supporters of Pompey in the Community, particularly in its initiatives aimed at tackling social isolation and supporting those living with dementia. We are proud to stand with these important efforts.
This special event at Portsmouth FC was a reminder of how important it is to have open conversations about mental health. At Home Instead Portsmouth, we believe that caring for mental health is just as vital as caring for physical health. Whether it’s our Care Professionals listening and offering companionship to our clients or our involvement in community initiatives, we remain committed to being a source of support for those who need it.
The values celebrated at the match – empathy, connection, and support – are deeply embedded in everything we do at Home Instead Portsmouth. “It was moving to see how Portsmouth FC and the community came together to highlight the importance of mental health,” Helen said. “It reminded me just how essential it is to offer support, whether it’s through our home care services or community partnerships.”
We have been inspired by the dedication of Portsmouth FC, Pompey in the Community, and local young people who led the way in promoting mental health awareness. The day was a powerful reminder of the importance of reaching out and supporting each other locally. Together, we can create a stronger, more supportive community.
