Groups for Seniors in Retford

Whether you're seeking new friendships, intellectual stimulation, or simply a place to indulge in your hobbies, discover a community of groups for seniors in Retford!

As we journey through life, it’s vital to foster meaningful connections and engage in activities that bring us joy and fulfilment. This holds especially true for older people, who often suffer from social isolation. For many older people, the only social interaction they have is with their Care Professional which is why we always try to encourage our clients to get out and about as the support found within community groups can have great benefits.

Retford Library Book Club

For avid readers, the Retford Library Book Club offers a delightful platform to discuss literature, share recommendations, and expand one’s reading horizons. Engaging in meaningful conversations with fellow book enthusiasts fosters a sense of intellectual stimulation and community, making it a wonderful group to join.

Many seniors, especially people living with dementia, often struggle with overstimulation in crowded places which can make them frustrated and anxious, which is why a library setting can be especially beneficial for older people.

The University of the Third Age

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a well-established organisation that aims to provide a variety of interest groups and educational opportunities for only £20 per year. Although there is no age requirement to obtain a membership, the group is exclusively for retired or semi-retired individuals. Additionally, members can attend activities with a Care Professional for extra support without the need for them to have a membership.

Retford U3A offers a wide range of activities, from art and history to walking groups and technology workshops. It’s an excellent way to pursue personal interests, learn new skills, and meet like-minded individuals within the community.
