Making Our Community Dementia Friendly

At Home Instead Romford, we believe that knowledge is the first step towards understanding and empathy. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to educate and support our local community with free dementia awareness workshops. These sessions are designed to empower individuals, families, and organisations with the information and tools they need to better understand and support those living with dementia.

Why dementia awareness matters

Dementia is a condition that touches many lives, whether through personal experience or through a loved one. Despite its prevalence, there is still a significant gap in understanding what dementia is, how it affects people, and how best to support those living with it. By increasing awareness, we can create a more compassionate, supportive, and dementia-friendly community.

What to Expect from Our Workshops

Our dementia awareness workshops are:

  • Friendly and welcoming: We create a comfortable environment where everyone feels at ease to ask questions and share their experiences.
  • Informative: The sessions provide valuable insights into the various types of dementia, early signs, and how to interact with and support someone living with dementia.
  • Interactive: These workshops are not just lectures; we engage participants in discussions, activities, and real-life scenarios to make the learning experience practical and memorable.
  • Easy to Understand: We make sure that the information is presented in a way that is accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or prior knowledge of dementia.

Who We’ve Worked With

We’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with local groups like Havering Mind and the Havering Association for People with Disabilities. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants appreciating the practical advice and supportive atmosphere we bring to each session.

How You Can Get Involved

Whether you’re part of a community group, a local organisation, or just a group of friends who want to learn more, we’re here to help. No group is too big or too small. If you’re interested in hosting a workshop or attending one, simply reach out to us. Together, we can build a community that is not only aware of dementia but also equipped to make a difference.
