Festival showcasing how to stay fit and healthy and supported whether you are living with or supporting someone with dementia
If you’ve read our previous blog posts, you’ll know that we love being a part of events in our wider community. Since dementia support has a special place in our hearts, one event that we’re particularly excited about is Demfest, which is taking place in Romsey on 15 September, after a 5 year gap!
Demfest is a free event celebrating 10 years of Romsey being a Dementia Friendly Town. Its main purpose is to give families the opportunity to find the help and support that is available to them, in a fun and relaxed environment.
Demfest is run by Romsey Dementia Action Group (ROMDAG), whom we partner with for our monthly singing sessions. It will be held in the beautiful Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and will be officially opened by former Saints and England star Matt Le-Tissier.
There will be information stands and live music from a South Asian dance group, a ukelele group and Romsey’s memory choir as well as others. Demfest will provide the chance to find out how to live well with dementia, with different activities and wellbeing sessions also on offer. There will also be a reminiscence area, children’s activities and even a model railway.
Our owner, Jon, who is a ROMDAG committee member, commented that “This year marks a decade since Romsey became a dementia-friendly town. I’m so proud to see the area offer a great deal of support for people with the condition, from activity groups to care. DemFest will bring all of this together.
“Everyone can benefit from learning more about dementia. It’s not just about helping family members, it’s about understanding how, as a community, we can be more supportive and accommodating of people with the condition. And who says we can’t have fun whilst learning more about dementia?! DemFest has plenty of activities that all the family can enjoy.”
We’d love to see you there! If you’d like more information about the event, or about the dementia care that we provide, please visit do give us a ring on 01722 515 761 and one of our friendly office team members will be delighted to have a chat.
