Bryan's New Hobby at 89

With the encouragement of his Care Professional, Richard, our client Bryan has picked up a paintbrush at the grand age of 89!

Having not painted since school – a good 80 years ago – Bryan has begun a renewed interest in beautiful paintings of scenic vistas.

Bryan is living with Alzheimer’s, and painting really helps to improve his mood and his concentration. It’s also a novel way to reminisce on favourite places and happy memories created there, and channel his emotions into something creative.

Often Bryan and his wife Hazel will switch the television off and get the paints out instead. He particularly enjoys watercolours, and with Richard’s help, he has started having a go with oil pastels which he had not tried before.

Richard believes strongly in the power of arts to help with emotional wellbeing and exploration. “He enjoys the feeling of getting lost and absorbed in what you paint, especially landscapes, which he enjoys creating very much. He also reminisces about his work days in Scotland when he paints a highland scene. Bryan also particularly likes painting skies.” said Richard, Bryan’s Care Professional.

Bryan encourages everyone to have a go at painting, no matter how old!
