September marks the beginning of World Alzheimer's Month.
September is a month of global significance as it marks World Alzheimer’s Month, a dedicated time to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of Dementia. As a Home Care Company who provides specialist Dementia care, we recognise the importance of this month in shedding light on the challenges faced by those living with Alzheimer’s and their carers. It’s also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to providing compassionate, specialised care for those living with Alzheimer’s and other types of Dementia.
World Alzheimer’s Month was launched in 2012 to bring global attention to the issues surrounding Alzheimer’s and Dementia. The month-long campaign culminates in World Alzheimer’s Day on the 21st September. The theme for this year is “Never too early, never too late,” and aims to emphasise the importance of understanding risk factors and taking proactive steps to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurological disorder that affects memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday activities. One of the biggest challenges associated with Alzheimer’s is the lack of awareness and understanding, which often leads to late diagnosis and consequently limited treatment options.
Early detection and diagnosis are crucial as they allow for better management of the disease, both for the person living with Alzheimer’s and their carers. It allows for more effective care plans, support systems and interventions that can improve quality of life.
At Home Instead, we understand that caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s requires a unique approach that combines knowledge, compassion, and deep understanding of the conditions impact of daily life. Our Care Professionals receive specialist City & Guilds accredited Dementia training allowing us to provide the best support needed to allow individuals to live as independently and comfortably as possible.
Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect the individual, it impacts the entire family. We can help to support by providing resources, education and respite care to support families as they navigate this challenging journey. Our Care Professionals provide consistent, compassionate care, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety that are common in people with Alzheimer’s.
World Alzheimer’s Month is a time to take action, whether through learning more about it, supporting a loved one, or participating in community events. One way you can get involved is by educating yourself about the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s and Dementia and the importance of early detection, and how to support the loved ones. At Home Instead South Cheshire we offer Community Dementia workshops, where we can come to your community group, business, place of work or school to provide an in person Dementia awareness session.
