Announcing “Virtual Dementia Tour” coming to Southampton in August

This August Home Instead Southampton will host the transformative Virtual Dementia Tour and gain invaluable, empathetic insights into those living with dementia.

The Virtual Dementia Experience: Hosted by Home Instead Southampton

We are thrilled to announce that we are hosting the incredible Virtual Dementia Tour on 27th August 2024 at our Southampton office.

Step into the shoes of those living with dementia

The Virtual Dementia Tour allows participants to step onto a bus, and with the help of technology, into the shoes of individuals living with dementia.

Empathy is central to our mission of care at Home Instead, and this immersive experience provides a window into the world of those living with dementia and is seen as the benchmark of dementia training.

Empathy in care

AtHome Instead Southampton, we understand the importance of empathy in delivering quality care. It’s one thing to provide care, it’s another entirely to connect and understand the perspectives and experiences of older adults living with dementia. This is why we’re inviting our dedicated Care Professionals and members of our community to participate in this impactful training.

Scientifically proven and transformative

The Virtual Dementia Tour, pioneered by Training 2 CARE in the UK, is a scientifically and medically proven approach. Developed 25 years ago in the USA by Professor PK Beville, and now a hallmark of dementia awareness training, the tour has a transformative effect on those who undertake it. Research by Ulster University shows that 95% of participants change their approach to care, while knowledge and outcomes for clients are improved in 97% and 100% of cases, respectively.

Experience the emotions of dementia

During the tour, participants can expect to feel confusion, isolation, loss, and vulnerability – emotions frequently encountered by those with dementia. This visceral understanding can transform how we understand those living with dementia, and further motivate a desire to improve the quality of care and the environments we create for older adults. This standard of training can truly support making real-world changes.

The importance of understanding dementia

Seeing the world through the eyes of those with dementia is crucial. With an ageing population and the expectation that according to Alzheimer’s Society 1 in 3 people born in the UK today will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime, it’s more important than ever to act now and make a difference.

Our commitment to exceptional dementia care in Southampton

As a provider of exceptional care at home in Southampton to older adults living with dementia in our community, we are committed to continuously improving our services and support.
