Three tips for staying hydrated

Staying hydrated is crucial, especially during the warmer months. Proper hydration helps the body manage heat and function well, which is particularly important for older adults. Here’s some ideas on how we can best keep fluids up.

Tip 1: Encourage regular fluid intake

Drink water regularly throughout the day. Keeping a water bottle nearby and taking small sips frequently can help maintain hydration levels.

Tip 2: Incorporate hydrating foods

Include hydrating foods like fruits and salads in daily meals or snacks. These foods are high in water content and contribute to overall hydration. Other foods to include could be jelly or ice lollies.

Tip 3: Stay cool

Avoid going out during the hottest parts of the day. Staying indoors or in shaded areas can help to keep cool, and consider wearing light, breathable clothing to help regulate body temperature.

Southampton has lots to offer in the summer for all ages, whether you’re exploring the Weston Shore, stopping for an ice cream or visiting indoor attractions, there are plenty of ways for families and older adults to make the most of summer days.
