Home Instead (Stourbridge, Hagley and Halesowen) is proud to join a growing number of employers to pledge to recognise the importance and value of older care workers.
Our clients often request “Care Professionals” with life experience, because they feel more comfortable with people their own age, people who they will have more in common with and this fits perfectly with our pledge and the mission we share with The Centre for Ageing Better. At Home Instead we work hard to match caregivers with their clients for this reason, and often that can be easier if the caregiver has had more experiences. However we do also have some clients who ask for younger Care Professionals because they enjoy their energy and the ability to see the world through younger eyes. Care Professionals can be matched for many reasons and some clients tell us they love the fact that their care team is quite diverse, and they love all of them for different reasons! According to skills for care, 29% or care workers are over the age of 55. For Home Instead (Stourbridge, Hagley, Halesowen, Belbroughton, Clent and Brierley Hill) this figure is 36%. Whilst the average age of our Care Team is 47, we are particularly proud of our oldest Care Pro who has more energy than most and also our youngest, who everyone says already has “a wise old head on her shoulders”
Whatever stage of life, being a Home Instead Care Professional can give you a tailored work-life balance as well as the most rewarding job you could imagine. Male or female, Part-time or Full-time, Guaranteed or flexible. Every Care Assistant schedule is unique and is something that is built through conversations with each individual. One of our Care Assistant’s said whilst making our promotional video “I don’t know how I ever had a different career – it’s so rewarding……..I wasn’t sure in the beginning but now I know it’s a journey into my forever job”. Another said “After being made redundant, I thought ‘where do I go from here’, so I thought what is out there, what skills do I have and the work-life balance works for me really well”. One of our male Care Assistants said “I used to work in IT in my previous career which gave me skills in customer care and helping people out, so I thought ‘let’s give it a go, and I’ve been doing it for about a year and a half now.” More and more, there is a trend to support older workers who can be well suited to both hourly and live-in care to find the job they want with new organisations like Rest Less signposting opportunities and becoming the fastest growing digital community for over 50’s in the UK.
As an Age-friendly Employer, Home Instead (Stourbridge, Hagley, Halesowen, Belbroughton, Clent and Brierley Hill) will…
We will commit to take action in at least one area every year and will report back on our activities and achievements annually.
