Introducing 'Home Truths': Real Stories from the Heart of Dementia Care

Home Instead Sutton offer more than care visits, we are a resource for education and expertise. That's why we have launched 'Home Truths', a space for stories and support.

At Home Instead Sutton, we’re dedicated to supporting families navigating the challenges of dementia beyond our care visits. In order to support the wider community, we’ve launched the ‘Home Truths’ YouTube channel, featuring real-life stories from our experienced Care Professionals and the families we assist.

Understanding Dementia’s Impact

Dementia is a significant health concern in the UK:

  • According to Alzheimer’s Research UK, approximately 944,000 people are currently living with dementia in the UK. This number is expected to exceed one million by 2030 and reach over 1.6 million by 2050.
  • One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime.
  • In 2024, the economic impact of dementia in the UK was estimated at £42.5 billion, with projections suggesting it could rise to over £90 billion by 2040.

These statistics underscore the importance of raising awareness and providing support for those affected by dementia. Through our ‘Home Truths’ channel, we aim to share experiences and knowledge that can help families navigate the complexities of dementia care.

Marigold’s Journey

In this video from Home Truths, we meet Marigold, a glamorous and vibrant individual who, with the unwavering support of her family and our carers, remained the life and soul of her family gatherings until her passing. Her family’s honest reflections offer insights into how they’ve adapted and managed their expectations as her condition progressed, providing guidance for others on a similar journey. It’s through sharing real-life stories that we can educate and inform families and communities on the reality of this condition that impacts so many.
