Our wonderful Care Professionals benefited from immersing themselves into what it feels like to live with
DementiaHere is what they experienced :
Sensory Alterations – wore special glasses, headphones, gloves, and other equipment that distorted their senses. These devices simulate visual impairment, auditory hallucinations, and reduced tactile sensation.
Tasks and Activities: During the tour, our Care Professionals were asked to complete everyday tasks such as sorting items, dressing, or finding objects. These tasks are made deliberately challenging to mimic the confusion and frustration that people with dementia often experience.
Lisa said it was “horrifically informative, I knew it was me but it was like an out of body experience”
Penny felt “very confused”.
Diane said it was like “being an Alien it was very intense”.
Our
Care Professionals all said that they could now understand why people living with Dementia got very drained on a day to day basis.
This experience will help our Care Professionals have a deeper understanding of our clients who live with dementia, which will promote empathy, patience and compassion.
We want to say a huge thank you to
