Loneliness

Loneliness is something we all experience at times but not everyone admits to feeling this way.

Loneliness Just the word itself has a disheartening feel to it.

It is something that everyone can feel at times but it is not always easy to admit it.

You can feel lonely no matter where you live, how many friends you have or being surrounded by lots of people. You can still feel lonely in these circumstances the same way a person feels lonely because they have no one around them.

Loneliness is a personal thing, it is not a mental health problem but it can have a negative impact on your mental health if you have felt lonely for a long time.

There are many reasons why someone may feel lonely but there are things you can do that may help.

  • Talk to someone about how you feel
  • Join a group or a club
  • Contact old friends
  • Become a volunteer
  • Do something you enjoy, such as cycling

We had a client that was very rude to their Care Professionals. It turned out part of the reason this was happening was because they were feeling lonely and did not like it when they knew the Care professional had to leave. Live In Care was eventually put in place and the difference this has made is remarkable. They laugh, joke, smile and generally look so much more happier in themselves. You can find out more about our Live In Care service here.

Of course, Live In Care isn’t for everyone and sometimes Companionship Care can help just as much. Having someone that comes round to chat with you, take you out, go for a walk, all helps to relieve the feeling of loneliness. You can find out more about our Companionship Care here.

Whatever you decide to do, know that you are not the only person who feels this way and you should not feel ashamed to admit it.
