Our Care Professionals are at the heart of delivering exceptional care
Hi, my name is Sian, and I am the Head of Care Professional Experience at Home Instead Truro, Falmouth & Redruth. I joined Home Instead June 2023 and was very excited to be moving into a new sector as all my professional career had been as a HR Manager in the renewable energy sector. Having moved to Cornwall in 2022, it felt natural to find a role that I felt was more personally rewarding and helped support the local community.
I have 12 years’ experience dealing with People Management and Business Operations. I take responsibilty for the employee experience in order to support and enable employees to reach their full potential and continue to provide exceptional companionship care, personal care and home help and light housekeeping.
I get great satisfaction from my work and can see in real time the direct effect it has on our Care Professionals, our clients and their familes. I am trusted and heard, my opinion matters and is always considered. We work as a team and have great communication with my senior managers and wider team. Not coming from a background that worked in or around care of any kind, I greatly appreciate the support, advice and direction I receive when it comes to Care. I now have a much better understanding of how the sector works, especially exceeding the standards set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for supporting our Care Professionals and clients. Richard, our Care Manager, is a great source of knowledge and anything he doesn’t know, probably isn’t worth knowing!
Whilst my experience comes from a very different landscape to the one I now work in, my focus hasn’t changed – people. They are the most important part of any business. The better I can support our Care Professionals the better their morale, motivation, mutual respect and performance. This ultimately benefits the business, our clients and their families.
Having empathy and patience is incredibly important when managing a team, whilst respecting and understanding people on an individual basis is key to building and maintaining relationships within a team. I genuinely care that we provide the best working environment by supporting individual needs as they arise. I feel this correlates with the Home Instead Brand Promise – to recruit and retain professional and compassionate people to look after our clients. I take pride in recognising and recruiting these people to enable us to deliver meaningful, very high-quality, personalised care.
The culture of Home Instead really aligns with my own approach. It’s person-centred, empathetic, caring and supportive. This doesn’t just apply to our Care Professionals, but to our clients, their families and their support networks. Where clients lack local family or a support network, Home Instead will fulfill these roles to ensure they can enjoy living an independent life in their own home for as long as possible. This level of care not only makes a difference to our clients, but also to our Care Professional team.
Who wouldn’t want to be part of a team that provides help and support like that?
I cannot speak highly enough of this super company and it starts at the top for sure. The manager is very approachable, helpful and intuitive and he really listens carefully and works out what the family as a whole needs. The carers that visit Mum are lovely, and Mum feels she has made new friends.
The level of support offered to the family as a whole is superb.

Mum and I have found the care given by Home Instead excellent. Mum came out of a care home to be cared for in her own home after hip surgery four years ago. Mum is now 99 years old, has carers twice a day and has a lot of help from myself. The carers have been punctual, genuinely caring, efficient, adaptable and hard working. They have become friends to Mum and myself. The team remains generally stable and any new carers are carefully supervised in their new role. Management are helpful and sympathetic, any problems are quickly rectified and we have a regular thorough review.
All care is expensive but this care provider represents good value for money in this market. This care gives Mum the best quality of life available, maintains her independence in her own home and enables me to spend quality time with Mum.
I thoroughly recommend this company.
