Be A Santa To A Senior: Spreading Christmas Cheer

With just three weeks to go until Christmas, Home Instead Wakefield launched its Be A Santa To A Senior (BASTAS) scheme.

With just three weeks to go until Christmas, Home Instead Wakefield launched its Be A Santa To A Senior (BASTAS) scheme. Our Community Engagement Officer, Lee Masterman, reached out to the Wakefield community, encouraging people to donate wrapped presents, which were then passed on to Age UK Wakefield for distribution to those who might otherwise wake up on Christmas Day without a gift to open.

The response from the Wakefield public was incredible, with over 70 wrapped presents donated! These were delivered to Age UK Wakefield’s Head Office, where Alex and Amanda received them before passing them on to their volunteers and befrienders for distribution to their clients. The recipients were delighted, and the feedback from both donors and beneficiaries was truly heartwarming. One gentleman said, “It has made my Christmas,” while the look on one lady’s face (see picture on the right) said it all!

The picture on the right shows one of the ladies who received a blanket, generously donated by a member of the public for the BASTAS scheme, with joy written all over her face. The main blog post picture features Alex and Amanda from Age UK Wakefield receiving the donated presents from Home Instead Wakefield’s Community Engagement Officer, Lee Masterman.

Home Instead Wakefield and Age UK Wakefield would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to EVERYONE for their generosity in making Christmas special for so many people.
