Home Instead Wandsworth, Lambeth & Dulwich spread festive cheer at the Dulwich College Christmas Market and shared information about their dementia cafes.
In November, we were at the Dulwich College Christmas Market!
The market brought together local organisations, sellers, and shoppers looking for that unique gift, a slice of cake, or just to soak up the Christmas atmosphere. This festive tradition is always a highlight in the community calendar, and this year, Sophie and Kemi represented Home Instead Wandsworth, Lambeth & Dulwich.
Our team was delighted to bring a touch of festive spirit to the market, connecting with local families, sharing our mission, and celebrating the season of giving. We also had the opportunity to share information about our dementia cafes, a social meeting space for those living with dementia, alongside their friends, family, and Care Professionals.
We believe in the power of community. Events like the Dulwich College Christmas Market remind us of how important it is to support one another, especially during the festive season. From chatting with visitors about our home care services to sharing details about our dementia cafes at King’s College Hospital SE5, Balham Baptist Church SW12 and All Saints Church SE21, every conversation reinforced what makes the Dulwich community so special.
Whether you stopped by our stall for a friendly chat, picked up some free information, or simply shared a smile, we loved being part of your Christmas experience. If you didn’t get a chance to stop by, here are some of the suggestions we shared to brighten your loved one’s Christmas spirit and really show them you care:
– Deliver a festive meal: Cook or bring their favourite Christmas dish to enjoy together.
– Help decorate their home: Put up lights, a tree, or festive ornaments.
– Write and send cards together: Help them reconnect with friends and family.
– Run errands: Pick up groceries, medication, or other essentials for them.
– Bring a thoughtful gift : A warm blanket, puzzle, or favourite treat to brighten their day.
Why not bring them along to one of our memory cafe events? Families and friends are also welcome to join in.
For many, the holidays are a time to relax and enjoy family traditions, but for older and vulnerable adults needing extra support, it can also be a time when an extra helping hand becomes even more important. Home Instead Wandsworth, Lambeth & Dulwich is here to support you and your family, offering tailored, compassionate care that ensures everyone can feel the joy of the season.
Christmas can also be a great opportunity to observe if your elderly relative or friend is managing well at home. Here are five signs they might need some extra home help:
1. Messy or cluttered living spaces: Signs they’re struggling to maintain their home.
2. Neglected personal hygiene: Changes in appearance, grooming, or clothing.
3. Missed meals or expired food: Indications of difficulty cooking or eating regularly.
4. Forgetfulness or confusion: Repeated questions or misplaced items.
5. Withdrawal or low energy: Lack of interest in Christmas activities or socialising.
These signs could indicate that your family member or friend needs a helping hand with personal care or even just a bit more regular companionship. If you have any concerns, our friendly office staff are here to answer any questions you may have.
As the new year approaches, we’re inspired by the warmth and connection we felt at the Dulwich College Christmas Market. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall and made the day so special.
