If you’re going for a stroll or shopping with an older loved one in or near Wembley, why not have a break at one of these five charming little cafés?

At Home Instead Wembley, we offer high quality home care, dementia care and live-in care. Whenever possible, our care professionals like to take our clients out for a spot of fresh air and a welcome cup of tea or coffee. We’ve selected five of our favourite local ‘haunts’ in the hope that you’ll enjoy taking your elderly friend or relative to one.

Black Sheep Coffee

Located just north of Wembley Stadium in Olympic Way, you can find the Black Sheep Coffee shop. This is a great place for coffee afficionados, as they offer a wide selection of speciality coffees from different places around the world. And if you really like one of their coffees, you can buy a pack of the coffee beans from the shop afterwards!

Black Sheep Coffee is a great place to take an older loved one with disability problems, as there’s good disabled access and disabled toilets – as well as outside seating. And it they (or you) have a dog, you’ll be delighted to hear that it’s also dog-friendly! The café is open from 6:00am Mondays to Fridays, closing at 7:00pm or 8:00pm; and from 6:30am to 8:00pm on Saturdays and 6:30am to 6:30pm on Sundays.

Boki Coffee

Another great café to try in Wembley is Boki Coffee – an independent coffee company, which like Black Sheep Coffee, is also located in Olympic Way. The café was launched by two friends, Boris and Kim – which is where its name came from. It serves Boki blend coffee, various filter and cold brew coffees, and freshly made juices and smoothies – as well as delicious homemade cakes, sourdough toasties and other snacks. It even provides some gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free and even sugar-free options! Boki’s staff include experienced baristas, bartenders and chefs.

We’d advise coming here on a warm, sunny day, as there’s only outside seating available. This is on benches by tables, so might not be suitable for people with mobility issues, although a wheelchair could be placed at the end of a table. Boki Coffee is open until 2:00pm on Mondays and Tuesday and until 5:00pm on Wednesdays to Sundays.

OPA! Greek Bakery & Patisserie

Another prime place for breakfast is the Opa! Greek Bakery & Patisserie at the London Designer Outlet in Wembley Park Boulevard. It’s called Opa! due to the Greek expression often used at weddings or dances (sometimes accompanies by plate smashing!) The bakery has a wide variety of different coffees, including their own speciality coffee. It also has a mouth-watering selection of pastries, cakes and sweet and savoury food prepared on the premises – as well as sandwiches, salads and other light meals – as well as its Greek specialities.

Located just a stone’s throw away from Wembley stadium, Opa! has achieved a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 on Trip Advisor. The bakery’s open from 7:00am on Mondays to Saturdays and from 8:30am on Sundays. It closes at 9:00pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays and 5:00pm on Sundays and Mondays. It has tables outside if you just want to watch the world going by while you enjoy your cuppa…

Kenton Lane Café

If you’re having a trip around Harrow, why not try Kenton Lane Café? This family-run business has been going for over ten years and specialises in comfort food and hot and cold drinks. Located just a few yards along the road from Kenton Lane Post Office. For drinks, it offers a wide variety of teas, coffees, fruit juices and lemonade. The coffee is ethically sourced and freshly ground.

For food, it tends to specialise more in breakfasts (often with an Indian twist) and other items such as omelettes, burgers, baked potatoes and paninis. And the bread is delightful, as it’s freshly baked. The café also caters for vegetarians and vegans (including vegan butter and non-dairy milks). It’s open until 4:00pm every day of the week.

The Hive Bar Café

Another interesting venue that’s worth visiting is the Hive Bar Café in Barnet, next to the Hive Stadium, home to Barnet Football Club and Tottenham Hotspur FC Women. The coffee shop was built a few years ago within the existing Hive Bar, and serves Starbucks coffees and a wide range of other hot and cold drinks. It also serves breakfasts, main courses, snacks, ice creams and pancakes. The food is carefully prepared by the cafés own chefs.

So sit back and relax while enjoying your cuppa and something to nibble on (or something more substantial!) The Hive Bar Café is open every day of the week, from 7:00am until late in the evening.

We find that a cup of tea or coffee in and around Wembley often goes down a treat with our older clients. It gives them a chance to sit and relax – and to open up and have a chat as well. Why not try one of our suggestions above and see how you get on?
