Personal care is one of the most important ways we support people to stay independent in their homes across the area from Clydebank, Dumbarton and Helensburgh, to Bute and Arran. We understand that accepting help with personal care isn’t always easy, which is why our unhurried, one-hour visits focus on dignity and respect. Scoring “Very Good” from the Care Inspectorate, we also take time to understand each person’s preferences – from their morning routine to how they like their hair styled. Our careful, considerate approach helps make personal care feel comfortable and natural.

We understand that every person and every personal care visit looks different – one person might prefer a shower before breakfast, while another likes to start their day with tea in bed. Our personal care support adapts to these preferences, whether it’s help with washing and dressing, managing medications, or helping to get dressed. We understand the importance of feeling fresh and well-presented, so we take time to help choose outfits, ensure clothes are comfortable, and maintain personal grooming routines. These aren’t just tasks to us – they’re part of helping someone feel a bit more like themselves.
We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Both are overseen by our care management team and delivered by compassionate Care Professionals. Each care package is made up of of a unique mix services to meet your needs.

We’ve supported many clients in moving from being hesitant about accepting help to feeling comfortable and confident with their Care Professional.

Our Care Professionals complete thorough, multi-day training before providing personal care, focusing on practical skills and understanding how to support people sensitively. This includes dedicated modules on maintaining dignity, supporting mobility in the home, and adapting techniques for different needs and conditions. We’re particularly careful about matching clients with the right Care Professional and maintaining that consistency – it makes a real difference when someone knows exactly how you like your bath run or the order in which you take your medicines.
We also work closely with local healthcare providers across West Dunbartonshire, Argyll, Bute and Arran. Our strong relationships with GPs, district nurses and pharmacists mean we can quickly respond if we notice any changes in a client’s needs. Whether it’s coordinating with a physiotherapist about safe moving and handling or discussing medication changes with a local pharmacy, our joined-up approach helps clients get the right support. From Chris’s involvement in community fundraising to our regular healthcare professional meetings, we’re committed to being part of the wider care network in our area.

Promoting good personal hygiene helps to prevent illness and the spread of infection. It also helps maintain self-confidence and dignity.
A familiar care professional matched with you provides personalised care and support to you in your own home in the way you want it to be provided.
We understand that it can be difficult accepting personal care and that is why you will be introduced to your Care Professionals and they will spend time getting to know you before assisting you with your personal care.
At Home Instead we ensure that each client has a small team of Care Professionals in place to provide you with care so you can be confident that you will have continuity from the same Care Professionals.
At Home Instead, we have a robust approach to ensuring that all Care Professionals have regular observations of practice that we call Support Visits, and assessments of competency for key activities such as handling medication or providing catheter care.
