Home Instead West Lothian spread Christmas cheer to over 500 local seniors as part of their Be A Santa to a senior campaign in 2023.
Home Instead West Lothian are thrilled with the success of their most recent Christmas campaign for 2023, having collected over 1,200 presents from people within the local community. These presents were distributed to elderly people across the local area who are isolated, or would have otherwise been unlikely to receive a gift for Christmas.
The local home care company launched their ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ campaign back in 2020, which involves asking kind-hearted people across West Lothian to donate gifts at several drop-off points, or virtually through their Amazon Wishlist.
Dunelm Livingston, Williamson’s Garden Centre, J&R Veitch Garden Centre, Rouken Glen Garden Centre, and Klondyke Garden Centre hosted drop-off points, collecting an abundance of donations! Morrison’s and Tesco supermarkets in Bathgate also both helped to support the campaign with sizeable donations.
The charities and organisations involved in this year’s campaign included Spark, The Food Train, OPAL Cyrenians, Polbeth Harwood Parish Church, Livingston Old Parish Church, Dedridge Good Neighbour Network,Livingston United Parish Church, and Tippethill House Hospital.
With the help of these various groups and charities, Home Instead West Lothian identified 501 elderly individuals across the area that were isolated or otherwise unlikely to receive a Christmas gift. Thanks to the incredible generosity of members of the public, each of these individuals were able to receive 2-3 gifts in time for Christmas.
Graham Stevenson, owner of Home Instead West Lothian commented: “Christmas isn’t filled with cheer and enjoyment for us all. It’s important that we don’t forget about those who are on their own during the festive season.
“We have been blown away by the generosity of people across our local area to help make Christmas feel special for older people feeling lonely.
We would like to thank everyone who joined in and worked alongside us, including the shops who hosted donation points, and the charities and other organisations that helped us to identify the recipients and distribute the gifts to them in time for Christmas.
A big, special thank you goes to everyone who donated a gift! We are proud to be able to bring some cheer to local older people, and our campaign has shown how the community can come together to help people even during challenging times.”
