Beecraigs Country Park is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and is the largest of West Lothian’s 3 country parks, located high in the hills above Bathgate and Linlithgow. Linlithgow Loch is a tranquil and picturesque spot that is perfect for a leisurely stroll, passing ancient Linlithgow Palace. The loch is surrounded by scenic woodlands and meadows and is home to a variety of waterfowl and other wildlife. There is a circular walking trail around the loch that is accessible for people of all abilities.

This historical trail stretches 16 miles from West Calder to Winchburgh, incorporating information and sites along the route which tell the story of the area’s shale industry. This includes the Scottish Shale Museum which can be visited at the Almond Valley Heritage Trust. There are various walking routes of different lengths along the trail, which can be adapted to suit various abilities.
