Make this festive season special for elderly relatives in West Lothian with our thoughtful tips, dementia-friendly advice, and local event highlights.
The festive season can bring mixed emotions for us all, including for older adults, particularly for those facing loneliness, health challenges, or coping with loss. Families, especially caregivers, often find themselves juggling preparations while ensuring their elderly relatives feel included and cared for.
At Home Instead West Lothian, we believe small, meaningful actions can make a big difference. To help make this festive period special and bring peace of mind for everyone, we’ve put together some ideas from our award-winning team.
For many, including older adults, the run-up to Christmas can heighten feelings of isolation, particularly for those living alone or with limited mobility. Simple gestures can go a long way in making someone feel valued and part of the festive season.
– Regular phone calls or video chats can brighten their day.
– Sending a card with a cheerful message
– Visiting to share a cup of tea and help decorate a tree can create magical moments
– Fun activities such as writing cards, wrapping presents, baking treats, or watching classic Christmas films together are great ways to spend quality time.
For the fifth year in a row, we’re running our Be a Santa to a Senior initiative. This is a wonderful way for anyone in the West Lothian community to donate a gift to a local older adult who may be feeling alone this Christmas.
West Lothian is full of festive activities that can be enjoyed by friends and family of all ages. Attending local events together can lift spirits and bring a sense of community involvement. Don’t forget to wrap up warm and check accessibility for those with mobility concerns!
