Home Truths: Educating our Community About Dementia

Together with 'Home Truths', Wimbledon and Kingston are on a mission to educate and support those living with and caring for someone with dementia.

Dementia touches the lives of countless families, bringing challenges to daughters, sons and grandchildren as well. At Home Instead Wimbledon & Kingston, we understand these struggles and are committed to providing support, helping families recognise the symptoms of dementia, and working towards a more dementia-friendly society. The statistics are staggering: in the UK alone, according to research by the Alzheimer’s Society, approximately 982,000 people are living with dementia, a number expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040.

This is where a resource like Home Truths steps in. Here at Home Instead, we understand that a diagnoses of dementia can cause confusion, fear and worry. Home Truths, a You Tube channel, aims to dispel that anxiety by sharing stories, hints and tips about post-diagnoses support and even how to answer questions and explain what dementia is to grandchildren, like in the video above.

We know that to truly educate communities about dementia however, even more must be done. This is why we are so committed to our on-going work in the community .

Home Instead Wimbledon & Kingston runs a variety of activity groups designed to promote social engagement for those with dementia. ‘Love to Sing’ at The Quaker Centre in Kingston and ‘Love to Move’ at Raynes Park Library are just two of the regular groups we offer, helping to bring people together through music and movement. Help in the Home with Home Instead

For those seeking regular, reliable support at home, Home Instead Wimbledon & Kingston is here to help. We specialise in high-quality, personalised dementia care, designed to support both clients and their families.

If you reach out to us about care, here’s what to expect:

  • Our Care Manager will arrange a visit to assess your loved one’s needs, listening to what support is required and how often. We’re also happy to provide information over the phone about the different services we offer.
  • We create tailored care plans, ensuring each visit provides the right level of support.
  • We carefully match each client with a Care Professional who suits their personality and needs, rather than simply assigning the next available person.
  • Once care begins, we provide regular updates and check in to see if any adjustments can be made to better support your loved one.

If you’d like to know more about dementia care at home or our community activities, we’d love to hear from you. You’re not alone—we’re here to support you every step of the way.
