World Alzheimer’s Awareness day is a global effort to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
The theme this year is ‘Never too early never too late’, highlighting the vital role of early identification of risk factors and proactive risk reduction measures to delay, and potentially even prevent, the onset of dementia.
There are many factors which have been linked to the development of dementia. Some are risk factors, while others appear to be protective.
Risk factors are characteristics that appear to have some relationship to the development of a disease. If these risk factors are present, there is an increased chance, but not a certainty, that the disease will develop. ( Source:

If you find that you are experiencing memory problems or are having difficulties in performing everyday tasks, it’s important to make an appointment with your G.P. for further investigation.
Getting an early diagnosis opens the door to future care and treatment. It can help you to plan ahead while you’re still able to make important decisions on your care and support needs and on financial and legal matters. It is not something that most people like to think about, but it is so important.
There are many helpful resources for someone who has received a diagnosis, it can be overwhelming, but know that there are people out there who CAN help and who want to help. You are not alone.
