We're delighted to welcome the Virtual Dementia Bus next week, to provide what is described as a life-changing experience that results in a better understanding of dementia.
Participants are asked to perform everyday tasks but with distorted vision and hearing. The objective is to provide them with a deeper understanding of what it’s really like to live with dementia and the challenges being faced by a loved one or someone they provide care for.
The event is supported by Home Instead’s team and partner agencies, and we delighted to announce that former England Rugby player and World Cup Winner, Steve Thompson MBE, will also be attending and supporting the day.
Steve was diagnosed in 2020 with Dementia at the age of forty-two. Both Home Instead and Steve are keen to raise the profile of Dementia and raise awareness of how we can help to support those living with Dementia to help them to live well.
Home Instead is the first and still only CQC ‘Outstanding‘ rated domiciliary care company in Wirral. Our comprehensive professional home care services include compassionate care and support that enable people to live well in the comfort of their own homes.
We want more of our Care Professionals to understand the challenges people with dementia face. A key part of what we do is work with other organisations to support our clients with dementia, so we invite them to come along to the experience.
The Virtual Dementia Tour Bus provides a unique and impactful opportunity for our employees and other professionals within our community to see first-hand what it’s like to live with dementia. This level of training, which allows participants to put themselves in someone else’s shoes, is invaluable and not something we get to showcase every day.
We are thrilled to host the Virtual Dementia Tour Bus and provide our employees and other professionals within the community with this eye-opening experience. It is our hope that this initiative will create greater understanding, empathy and support for those living with dementia and their loved ones.
Whilst we’re a franchise of a globally renowned home care brand, we’re very much a local business, with local owners and staff. As such, we regularly contribute to the wider community in Wirral by providing a range of social, wellness and educational events. We host various companionship cafes around the area that are free to attend, giving people the opportunity to meet and chat within their local area.
We also provide support to many community events such as singing cafes, chatty cafes, and we also collaborate with local organisations such as AGE UK Wirral to combat social isolation. We’ve produced a printed What’s On Where Guide, which is available from our community partners or from our West Kirby office at 32 Grange Road, opposite the railway station. Please feel free to pop in to pick one up.
In addition to our community work, we also deliver Dementia Awareness training sessions across Wirral, Chester, and the South Liverpool area. These free sessions have been offered to community groups, doctors’ surgeries, the Archdiocese, solicitors, and local primary schools to raise awareness of dementia and how people can help their loved ones live well with it.
