At Home Instead Yeovil, Sherborne and Bridport, we believe in empowering our clients to maintain their independence while ensuring their safety and well-being.
Chris is a remarkable gentleman who has lived independently for many years. Despite having two sons living abroad, Chris has always valued his autonomy. However, as time passed, his health began to decline, leading to several challenges, particularly with managing his medication. This situation resulted in two hospital visits due to falls and medication overdoses.
Initially, Chris’s family arranged for a one-hour evening visit every day. While this helped, it soon became clear that additional support was necessary to ensure Chris’s safety and well-being.
Before our involvement, Chris’s neighbours had kindly stepped in to help with his medication. While their efforts were invaluable, the responsibility was becoming overwhelming. Our structured and professional support has alleviated this burden, allowing Chris’s neighbours to enjoy his company without the stress of managing his health needs.
Recognising the need for more comprehensive care, and following a recommendation from our team, Chris’s family decided to increase our visits to twice a day. Each morning, we spend two hours with Chris, during which we take him out to his favourite places, whether it’s a visit to the local pub in Yeovil, a trip to the garden centres, or attending appointments. In the evening, we ensure he takes his medication correctly, preventing the dangerous overdoses that had previously occurred.
This tailored approach has not only improved Chris’s physical health but also significantly boosted his mood and overall quality of life. Regular outings and social interactions have brought joy and a sense of purpose back into his daily routine.
Chris had also spent some time in respite care, but he longed to return home. Respite care, while necessary at times, was not where he felt happiest. His desire to live at home, surrounded by familiar comforts, was strong. Understanding this, we coordinated with his family to ensure his transition back home was smooth and safe.
Since then, our team has been committed to supporting Chris’s independence. Whether it’s a sunny afternoon at the pub or a peaceful morning at the garden centre, we are there to make sure Chris enjoys life to the fullest.
The changes we’ve seen in Chris since starting our visits are truly remarkable. He takes his medication regularly, his health has improved, and he’s more active and engaged than ever. His renewed enthusiasm for life is a testament to the power of personalised home care.
