What does home mean to you?

Forever fans of being at home, this Christmas we ask, “What does home mean to you?”

‘Home is where the heart is,’ ‘There’s no place like home,’ and ‘Home is the nicest word there is.’ It is true to say that there are so many wonderful ways to describe the word “home” and what it means to us all.

Home is a place of permanence, reassurance, and comfort, especially at Christmas. It gives us an anchor, a feeling of safety and soundness, no matter our age. Its quiet cacophony of familiar sounds – the creaks and whirs, the click of the kettle, and the footsteps of the postal worker – brings a sense of predictability and peace of mind.

At this time of year, home shines even brighter as we decorate our mantelpieces, front doors, and dining tables. But what is it about our homes that we cherish so deeply, regardless of our age or stage in life?

We took a few moments to ask our lovely care professionals, office team, and clients exactly what it is about home that fills their cup. Here’s what they shared:

  • “A full fridge and tummy and a warm bed.”Anna, York Head Office
  • “Home is family, love, comfort, warmth, and memories.”Shauna, Care Professional
  • “Home is where I can be myself.”Helena, Live-in Care Professional
  • “My favourite spot on the sofa, with my go-to blanket – there’s no place I would rather be.”Olivia, York Head Office
  • “Comfort, relaxation – my safe space.”Katie, York Head Office
  • “Home means belongingness, my safe space, safety, and solace.”Beverley, Office Support
  • “Home is where I feel safe and loved.”Alan, Client
  • “Home is the pictures on my wall, surrounded by my memories.”Betty, Client

We shall remain champions of all the goodness that comes from the wonderful place called home. That’s why we will always provide support to those who wish to stay, quite rightfully, in their happy place—their homes.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas filled with the joys and comforts of home.
